Making the Most Out of Your Twitter Presence

In just a few short years, the microblogging website Twitter has become an invaluable communication tool for millions of daily users.

Twitter has also become a key tool for marketers, who use the social media site to drive traffic to their website- and by extension, to their business. While many find it difficult to put information about their company into 140-characters, others have mastered the art of using Twitter to promote their business and web presence.

Here is how your medical practice can make the most out of Twitter:

  1. Create an effective Twitter bio. Make sure that your practice’s identity is well-represented in your Twitter biography. Be sure to include a link to your website, or company blog. Although you only have a certain amount of characters to work with, make sure to represent your practice as best as possible.
  2. Tweet regularly. Regularly tweeting is a sign of a healthy, active profile, which is something all patients respond well to. If you do not frequently send out Tweets, you risk being forgotten about by patients, so remember to Tweet weekly!  Keep active on the site, so your patients will remain engaged and interested in what you are doing.
  3. Use images and videos. Adding elements of rich media, like photos and videos, will help enhance your Twitter experience. This will not only will this benefit you, but your followers as well, since people often respond to visual elements more so than they do to words. Best of all, photos and videos usually receive more clicks from followers than normal tweets.
  4. Integrate Twitter into your marketing plan. Integrating Twitter into your overall marketing plan is extremely beneficial, especially if you are already using other social media like Facebook. Whenever you post something new on your Facebook page, also remember to post on Twitter. If you are running a promotion or contest on Twitter, let your email subscribers know about it. Never underestimate the power of social media- posting on Twitter might turn out to be one of the best things for your practice!
