Introducing Advice Media’s 1st Annual Work-A-Thon!
- Posted on: Feb 19 2015
Have you ever needed a ping pong break from scheduling an email marketing campaign at 1:30 in the morning? Neither had the Advice Media team until last Thursday night!
Members from nearly every department (Customer Success, Design & Development, and Digital Marketing) committed themselves to working 24 hours straight at our Park City office and dubbed the occasion the 1st Annual Work-A-Thon (#workathon /#hackathon). Typical computer nerds working into the wee hours! What can we say? It’s effective.
We’re committed to providing your digital marketing services in a timely fashion and to the best of our abilities. And why not make a team building exercise out of doing our jobs… all night long? Just to give you an idea of how a work-a-thon operates, here’s a brief rundown of events:
8:30 – 5:00 – Normal workday. Easy peasy!
5:00 – 7:00 – A bit of extra work. Alright, we can totally do this…
7:00 – 7:30 – Pizza, way too much pizza!!
7:30 – 8:00 – Quick ping pong tournament and playtime with the Work-A-Thon beagle mascots.
8:00 – 1:30 – The real work happened. We trained remote employees, finalized the Digital Marketing Services team structure, designed brochures, updated editorial calendars, responded to client emails, and finished in-progress projects.
1:30-2:00 – Far less lucid ping pong tournament.
2:00-4:30 – Initiate project “stay awake.” Work. Juggle oranges. Work. Crack a “your mom” joke. Work. Quote a famous movie. Work.
4:30-6:30 – Programmer takes a nap while the remaining employees dig deep to keep… on…. working…
6:30-7:00 – CEO brings hot coffee, bagels, and donuts for the weary workers. Then finally, head home.
Sounds fun, right? The best part… we completed a bunch of extra work for our customers.
Despite the struggle of pulling an all-nighter, our team reported the experience was an overwhelming success. “When you have a team that can work consistently and effectively over a long period of time, you strengthen the relationship between team members,” commented Ryan Hill, Digital Marketing Services Team Lead. “Having a strong relationship will create better communication when completing clients’ projects.”
As this year’s work-a-thon was beneficial for both our team and our customers, we look forward to a repeat performance next year!
